About This Place

La Cumbre Taqueria SF is a vibrant gem nestled in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission District, serving up authentic Mexican cuisine with a distinct focus on the legendary Mission-style burrito. This beloved eatery expertly blends tradition and flavor, offering a menu brimming with hearty, soulful dishes that celebrate the rich heritage of Mexican street food.

Step inside La Cumbre and you’ll immediately notice the inviting, no-fuss atmosphere where the focus is squarely on great food. The friendly, super approachable staff enhances the experience with genuine hospitality—complementing the bustling spirit of Valencia Street. Though the décor could use an update, the charm of the place shines through, making every visit feel like a comforting stop on your culinary journey.

The menu is a treasure trove of mouthwatering options, with burritos stealing the spotlight. From the iconic Mission Style Burrito weighing in at over two pounds, to the savory Steak Super Burrito and succulent Carnitas Burrito, each bite bursts with layers of perfectly seasoned meat, fresh beans, and vibrant, zesty salsa. The Burrito Mojado (Wet Burrito) adds a luscious twist with its rich sauce draped over the filling, making it a must-try for those wanting to experience maximal indulgence.

Seafood lovers will relish the Shrimp Burrito or the decadent Prawn Burrito Supreme, while vegetarians and health-conscious diners can savor surprisingly hearty options like the Chipotle Tacos and crisp, fresh Cilantro Lime Guacamole with Homemade Chips. The Super Nachos, kind-heartedly crafted with your choice of grilled chicken or steak, pile on refried beans, creamy guacamole, crisp jalapeños, and molten cheeses, delivering a satisfyingly crunchy and cheesy delight that’s hard to forget.

What truly sets La Cumbre apart is the generous portion size. Diners like Alexandra Patsa and Jax Lucier rave about the burritos being so large and packed to the brim, many find them impossible to finish in one sitting — a testament to the kitchen’s commitment to offering excellent value without sacrificing quality. The margaritas are also an undeniable highlight, brilliantly balanced and expertly crafted to complement the vibrant flavors of the food, making them perfect for a relaxing meal or lively gathering.

Customer reviews consistently praise not only the exceptional taste but also the warm service. Denise Vasquez calls out the friendly staff and excellent margaritas, while Martin Marquez appreciates the good portions and strong customer care, even suggesting a minor facelift to the ambiance and menus to match the modern quality of the food.

Whether you’re craving an authentic Mission burrito experience, looking for a hearty family meal, or want to indulge in some of the city's finest Mexican street fare, La Cumbre Taqueria SF delivers with passion, flavor, and authenticity. It’s more than just a taco joint—it’s a welcoming culinary haven that makes every visit memorable.

Food and customer service was excellent.. Good portions on food. I had a regular carne asada quesadilla. Almost too much food but I managed to chomp it up... this place needs a little updating; light fixtures were old and they need new menus..

I was told this was the place to go for the most authentic mission burrito experience, and they were right. I wound up getting a burrito over two pounds. The thing was massive and exactly what I needed after a long day. This place was on Man Vs. Food and a few other shows, and I can see why. The service was fast, and the food was good. What more could you ask for?

It's been a while since I've eaten at LA Cumbre. It was really good, nice service and spicy salsa! They have mild salsa as well :).
